A sweet and sentimental locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 14kt gold, this oval shaped locket displays a romantic hand painted and enameled motif on the surface. Gracing the front is an open winged dove who is pictured in flight, carrying a love letter in its beak. A colorful group of flowers drapes behind the lovely bird and the whimsical image has a vibrant, blue background. The painted detail is quite exceptional, bringing the image to life with feathered strokes and natural colors. When opened, the inside of the locket reveals two fabric-covered spaces where special photographs could be stored. The back of the locket, as well as the front of the fluted bail, displays the same vivid blue enameled surface, perfectly completing the gorgeous design. This unusual Victorian locket is in near pristine condition and would make a lovely keepsake piece, or wonderful gift for someone special!
Measurements: The locket hangs 1 3/4" long (including the bail), measures a little more than 1" wide, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting, and the painted enameled image remains in near perfect condition with no visible signs of damage. The locket opens easily and snaps securely shut, and the bail at the top is securely attached.
